Summer Laborer/Intern
Job Summary:
This position is an entry-level 12-week temporary summer laborer/internship position with a combination of manual labor, sewer inspections, and minor maintenance. We anticipate this to be a “learn and assist” position.
This position requires the ability to work both supervised and unsupervised along with the ability to communicate effectively with the Executive Director, Plant Operators, Board Members, Staff Members, the public and others as may be required.
This position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and to operate lawn care equipment.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Includes but is not limited to:
- Ground maintenance including cutting grass, weed eating, etc.
- Assist plant operators in plant maintenance & cleaning
- Mechanical fixes, sensor calibrations, checking samplers, cleaning UV bulbs & channels, cleaning baskets, spraying off baffle walls & decanters, cleaning office & press buildings, painting, general maintenance as needed.
- Monitor belt filter press
- Assist plant operators with 811 markings, as needed
- Assist plant operators with compliance inspections, line locations, etc.
- Monitor supernatant decanting off waste tanks
- Other duties as may be assigned
Job Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- High school diploma or equivalent
- A teachable attitude with a willingness to learn and to carry out duties as instructed is of paramount importance.
- Ability to deal professionally, courteously, confidentially, and efficiently with staff members, Board members, contractors, and the public.
- Steel toes shoes are required, cost will be reimbursed up to $150.
Supervision:
Supervision and training for this position will be the responsibility of the Plant Operators. Training will include safety training in all equipment and operations within the wastewater treatment facilities.
This position will work in confined spaces, perform work in all weather conditions, be exposed to raw sewage and odor, may be exposed to general outdoor hazards such as poison ivy or oak, and be exposed to potentially dangerous power equipment.
Although not specifically required, it is highly recommended that the series of hepatitis vaccines be considered by the candidate due to the nature of the work environment.
Background investigation will include references, previous employment, criminal, driving, and pre-employment drug screening.
Rate of Pay, Workweek:
The hourly rate for this position is $12.50/hour. As this is a temporary position, no benefits are available.
Our normal workday is 7:30 AM until 3:30 PM (a 30-minute unpaid break is included), Monday through Friday, 37.5 hours per week. Overtime is not part of this position.
